Get Your DoD Uniformed Services ID
Receiving your 100% VA disability rating is only the beginning. One of your first steps should be obtaining the DoD Uniformed Services ID (USID) available to eligible 100% disabled veterans. This becomes an important credential for accessing many DoD privileges without having to carry your VA award paperwork everywhere.
Download or print your VA documentation showing your qualifying 100% service-connected disability status.
DoD ID cards are issued through RAPIDS/DEERS ID Card offices located on military installations and at select off-base locations.
Contact or check your selected RAPIDS office before your appointment to confirm the current identification and eligibility documents required. Requirements can vary and change — always verify directly with the office.
Once your eligibility is verified at the RAPIDS office, you can obtain the appropriate DoD Uniformed Services ID for your status as an eligible 100% disabled veteran.
This credential can be important for accessing eligible DoD privileges. Depending on your eligibility, this may include:
- Military installation access
- Commissaries
- Military exchanges
- Eligible MWR facilities and services
- Other DoD privileges associated with your eligibility
Important: This ID is not required for every veteran benefit. Different programs have different eligibility and identification requirements. For example, National Parks veteran access is available more broadly to eligible U.S. veterans and accepts multiple forms of qualifying veteran identification. Each benefit card on this page explains its own eligibility requirements.
